The challenge
Emmanuel Orphanage Home in Nakuru has cared for about 78 children since 2005. Its old website still spoke in the voice of its late founder, Pastor Ismael Wagongo, listed his personal email as the only way to give, described building work that had long been finished, and told nobody that the family was carrying on his work.
The Home needed a website that told its story truthfully, honoured its founder, and gave supporters around the world a reason, and an easy way, to help.
What we built
- A story told in chapters. Our Story follows the Home from the first meal shared with street children in 2005 to the completed building of today, with slow crossfading photos from each stage.
- A memorial for the founder. An “In Loving Memory” page with a timeline of Pastor Ismael’s work and a moderated tribute wall for visitors’ memories.
- Giving made simple. Step-by-step M-Pesa and PayPal instructions, a WhatsApp button on every page, and clear cards for each current need.
- Privacy first. No child’s name or story next to a photo, team members shown by role, and a privacy policy aligned with the Kenya Data Protection Act.
- Nothing lost. All 126 photos from the old website moved into the new media library and archived for the Home.
- A careful launch. The new site replaced the old one on the same domain, with redirects so old links and search results keep working.
Working with the family
Every fact on the site was checked with the Home’s director, Mrs. Carren Wagongo, from the spelling of Pastor Ismael’s name to the year the first child came home. Her corrections shaped the final words, and she approved the site for launch.
The result
The Home now has an accurate, warm and trustworthy website its director approved for launch: a clear story from the streets of Nakuru in 2005 to the completed home of today, success stories of former children now building their own lives, and two direct ways for supporters in Kenya and abroad to give.
